Cry baby

My silky terrier was not feeling well. She did not jump up and wave her front feet at me, nor did she wag her tail off when she saw me. She looked sad and lethargic.

“I think Silky is sick.” I told my husband during dinner.

“What made you think so?” He answered absentmindedly while reading the newspapers.

“She is not smiling and she drags her feet around.”

“….”

“She did not run to me when she saw me. She didn’t even kiss me once today.”

“Maybe she’s sick…”

“We have to bring her to the vet. First thing in the morning. Still remember how weak she was when we first brought her home. Pity Silky, she was already 6 months old when we had her, unlike Lele who has been with us since 2 1/2 weeks old. Poor thing, she must had suffered so much at the puppy mill… (sniff sniff)”

He lowered his newspapers and peered my side.

“Remember how she used to have diarrhea after we fed her prawns and dog biscuits? That poor thing once foamed at her mouth after venturing into the back yard. Oh, she’s so weak. Remember how thin she was when we first had her? She was so dirty and full of fleas.. We must take her to the vet right away… (tears rolling down)”

He adjusted his seat and faced me.

“If she dies, we can have more silky terriers.” He said, trying to lighten the mood.

“If she or Lele dies, I will not keep any more dogs, ” I said indignantly, “Never! They will never be Silky or Lele. I can not stand another heart break.. (tears streaming)”

He sighed.

The next day, Silky wagged her tail and smiled a little when she saw me. She ate and appeared okay. The third day, she was darting and dashing around the garden, jumping and grinning broadly. No, the previous incident has nothing to do with my pregnancy hormones. I just love my dogs very much. Thank you.
