My furkids

This is my first time keeping dogs, not that we did not have dogs when I was a kid.. but I was never the one responsible for them. They are.. family dogs.. not my dogs, you know. And I admit to you in utter shame that they were not well taken care of and often died an untimely death. I still regret it deeply everytime I think of the white puppy, the black doberman and who knows how many more dogs. Deep deep remorse. May their souls rest in peace, may we meet again in dogs’ heaven.

But I have to make something straight: I am a changed person now! I am a responsible dog owner and I adore my dogs. Let me bring you down memory lane of the adoption of my furkids:

This is Silky, when she first came to the family. She was timid and not-unugly (I can’t utter the word “ugly”, not to my Silky).

We got her from a cramped cage in humid Satok Sunday Market. She laid lifeless in the cage and was often poked by passersby. Even then, she expressed her goodwill by wagging at these intruders.

I was reluctant to get her home as she seemed weak. We went back to the Market a few weeks later and she was still there. I thought it a sign from God and finally brought her home. We were told by the vendor that she was 3 months old, until proven otherwise by the vet a few days later. Gosh, she was already at least 6 months old, full of fleas, and had a weak stomach.

This is handsome Lele (“Happy” in Chinese) standing tall and proud. He was lucky to have his mother and then taken care by my Mother-in-law for two weeks before joining us for good. He grew up loved and that could explaine why he was very secure and well-rounded.

Lele with big sister, Silky, 2 1/2 years ago. They were tight.

See what I mean?

A few years later, Lele has grown into a powerful beast, with strong teeth that tear flesh and crush the strongest bones..

He is still gentle with Silky, and his human family.

We never or seldom hear Lele raises his voice to Silky. But on the contrary, Silky always reprimands Lele. And Lele is always a gentleman, waiting patiently for Silky to finish her meal, if he is still hungry. He will not even have his meal without Silky.

Forever, and ever, you’ll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever, we never will part
Oh, how I love you
Together, forever, that’s how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me ~~

Name the song :) All said, we are one happy family!
